One Day, One House, One Dream Come True
KBTX Media & Habitat for Humanity Team Up For a Local Family In Need
(Bryan, TX) (May 29, 2008) – Today, KBTX Media in a community partnership with David Gardner’s Jewelers and WTAW invite the community to make a family’s dream of home ownership come true. The community can help by dropping of donations at an all day drive to help fund the building of a Habitat home. One hundred percent of donations received during this event will be used to cover the construction costs associated with building the home.
The construction of this Habitat home will take place during the 2008 Builders Blitz. Starting May 31, eight local builders in partnership with Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity will complete the construction on seven houses in seven days. Six of the Habitat houses have the funds needed to cover the construction costs; however, there is one family still in need of a house sponsorship.
The Zapata family partnered with Habitat in the fall of 2007 with the dream of one day owning their own home. Stephanie Zapata has two small children, David and Angelica who long to have a safe and secure place to call home. Stephanie has been required to complete a series of home ownership workshop classes, 500 hours of sweat equity, and pay a down payment on her family’s new home. After the family moves into their new home they will also pay a monthly house note.
The local community is invited to help the Zapata family by dropping off their donations at the convenient drop off location. The broadcast center will be set up in t he Post Oak Mall parking lot at the corner of Highway 6 and Harvey Road.
