Patrick Bigelow, 44, an escapee out of Fayette County, ditched a stolen suburban in the college's Bryan parking lot.

The community college did not send students a warning Monday afternoon, because according to officials, there was no immediate danger.

However, Tuesday, Blinn officials said they are looking into companies that provide notifications, in case of an emergency.

"This is our most recent attempt to determine what companies are offering what services," Gena Parsons with Blinn College said. "We would like and have text messaging, and we would like to have an email system set up so that we can issue these alerts more effectively and efficiently. We just have to find out what's out there and what kind of costs and maintenance would be involved."

Blinn has told News Three in the past that cost prohibited the college from initiating a notification system.

The college is also looking into how its police department can be better connected by radio with Bryan police.

I imagine it is part of his employment package...most colleges offer a vehicle allowance of some sort to the presidents....it is likely a per month allowance and the vehicle will be used for more than one year, anyway. Dealerships also cut deals for educational institutions--it also could be a lease that fits the budget of his allowance. How about not fighting tax increases down there in Washington County when they are needed? From all the hoopla on the last tax issue, I believe it was noted that WA county contributes approximately $ 1 million to the total budget, which is hardly a drop in the bucket for the 70-80 mil it costs to run the college.

A&M has the Code Maroon system that works, as we all know. If the Blinn officials were smart, they'd try to work with A&M on this (like they have for other things), and for a nominal fee, use it instead of taking the time and resources to develop their own.

Do you know for a fact that it is provided by Blinn?

WOW! You would have thought that we would have had a system by now. It is not like we are not in the middle of Bryan. It is not like shootings have not taken place near the college while law enforcement were present. It is not like we have not had students murdered next to the college. Several gang bangers did an assassination style shooting on other gang bangers. The victims were taken to St Joseph hospital (next to the college). While the police were present in the parking lot the people who were the shooters drove by waiting for the victims to get out of the hospital so they could attempt to kill them again by shooting them. And they did shoot at them again. All while the police were present all near the college. I don't see how this could fall through the cracks, especially in crime central Bryan. It was covered by KBTX and the Eagle.

I heard from a source at Blinn College that their new President Dr. Holt just got a brand new tahoe at an estimated cost of $50,000.00. It is funny how the school can pay for a tahoe (and gas - with the high prices) and not a communication system.
