We have gone 25 days without measurable rain in Bryan/College Station, although we did pick up a trace of precipitation on June 3 and June 11. The forecast remains essentially the same over the next seven days -- hot and dry -- which will spell worsening drought conditions across all of the Brazos Valley. On another note: we've seen 29 ninety-degree days in Bryan/College Station this year (through June 18). Our first day at 90 was April 22. Last year, we saw 32 ninety-degree days through the same time period. However, in 2008 the first day at 90 wasn't until May 9. Have a great weekend! |

I just moved to SHSU back on 8/20 and as I was coming here, I noticed all the burn ban signs. Seeing how Bell County doesnt have this and knowing that rain usually comes this way from the northwest, I'm curious to know if the bans are lifted after some rainfall here. I know in Bell County where I'm from, if it rains about an inch or so, they lift the ban temporarily. Posted by: Robby i see rain i see rain nope not really it was a waterhose still on lol well this winter is going to be cold and wet Posted by: R Chris Location: clawdogg@charter.net All I'lve gotten is acouple of thunder showers Posted by: eric Location: bryan No chance of rain BoB?...... Toss out all of your computers and just call me bob i'll tell you when its gonna rain. Posted by: Chuck Location: OSR We keep hearing you say 50 or so days without rain. When we received .6" on Sunday, 07/19 we had been 11 weeks or 77 days without any measurable precipitation. I know that 50 or so days is bad, but we have never gone this long without any rain. Please report that some of us are EXTREMELY DRY. Posted by: Alex Location: Bryan Toying with starting a betting pool as to when we will next receive at least 1 inch of rain in BCS. Takers anyone? My own perusal of the NOAA websites suggests we may not see one inch of rain until September, barring a tropical storm. Anyone care to suggest a spread? Posted by: Jeff Location: CS I love how when storms pop up, they either form north of us and head north, or south of us and head south. We just can't catch a break. Posted by: Sandy Gutierrez Location: Navasota, Texas I think we all need to get on our knees and pray! To often we leave the Man Upstairs out of the equation, and that's our problem! Join me and pray! I believe God will provide! Posted by: HUBERTO Location: BRAYN THESE ARE TOUGH TIMES, EVEN MY RAIN GAUGE IS UNEMPLOYED. WILL WORK FOR RAIN Posted by: Anonymous Location: Snookers Don, I agree with your opinion for snook. LOL Posted by: Don Location: Burleson County near Snook I hate to admit I am just 1 mile outside Snook since Snook is such a rotten little small minded town but for location purposes I am 1.6 miles SW of Snook. I had a 106.5 on the digital weather station out here. Yikes! Still plenty of water in my stock pond and some of the pasture forage is still greenish but man do we need rain. Talking to my hay providers they are all getting very worried that this year may be worse than last year. They are all starting to be very circumspect about what hay will cost next month and on into the near future. Don Posted by: Wife of Fire Fighter #410 Location: Somerville I cannot believe that there is no burn ban in Burleson County as well. We are parched and in such desperate need of rain. I washed my car this morning hoping that it would help it rain....but the doppler doesn't look very promising for Somerville. Hopefully people will know how dangerous the conditions are and won't start a fire or use fireworks. My apologies to the Vendors of fireworks...but we have to be extremely careful because of the Extreme dry conditions. Posted by: Katrina C. Location: Wellborn We also got a nice little shower last night and it was WONDERFUL. I hope we get some more of that rain tomorrow during the day. I don't know about the rest of ya, but I could definitely go for an all day long drizzle. So could my greenish yellow lawn for that matter. Posted by: Brenda I cannot understand why the Burleson County Commissioners have not put a burn ban in effect. Every county adjoining Burleson and the counties adjoining those have been wise enough to see the need for a burn ban. No rain extreme heat= HIGH FIRE DANGER! Posted by: EJ Location: BRYAN It's been so dry that I have been watching reruns of Hurricane Allison. Posted by: John Location: Pebble Creek Subdivision It obviously rained last night, though I slept through it. My neighbor had a half inch in his rain gauge this morning. Posted by: Loraly Location: Wellborn Everyone, wash your cars!!! Posted by: Kathy Location: Wellborn It is now 3:46am on Monday the 29th of June and we are getting quite a shower here in Wellborn....FINALLY, some rain!! Posted by: Christi Location: Snook How about a chart/spreadsheet - showing rain we have gotten, an averages from years past. Rain totals - explain how you figure averages - averages over 10 years , 100 years? Snook last got rain back in April and yet you keep saying May. Posted by: Christi I agree - this is beginning to feel a lot like the summer of '98. Hot, hot, and hot! Posted by: Alex Location: Bryan Weather Channel is talking about a 'possible' tropical storm in the Caribbean with some models showing it headed our way...time to start praying this is true. Posted by: Benjamin Location: nappy857@hughes.net This summer reminds me of the summer of '78. That was a hot son of a gun! And dry. When the heat broke, it did so with a vengence. Flooding was pretty bad up toward Albany, TX. Here is hoping this hot spell eases out this time. Posted by: Cyndi Location: Bryan I was just on Weather Underground and they are reporting 109.6 with a 114 for the heat index. Posted by: Slim We got a suprise 1/2" rain last night in Shiro. Yea! Speaking of water - Senate Bill 787 (Clean Water Restoration Act) will federalize ALL water in the U.S. Imagine, the possibility of abuse when the feds control all ponds, creeks, wells, rain run off, etc. It is coming. Posted by: Angela Location: Bryan You think BTU charges a lot for water, then try Wickson Water! They are super proud of theirs! Posted by: Blake Mathews Location: Bryan Today's updated high is 105 officially here in B/CS. We also had temps as high as 109 reported today!! Posted by: Blake Mathews Location: Bryan We did it--broke the record for June 24th of 104 degrees. The old record was 102 set back in 1933. Some areas like Madisonville hit 107. Snook came in at 105. Carlos reported the same. Temperatures should easily hit those levels tomorrow. Hold on, folks, we have a long summer ahead. I'm going to need to see somebody when this is all said and done. LOL!!! Bob and I were conversing earlier and were discussing the correlation between extreme summers and extreme winters. With the onset of El Nino (usually meaning a wetter pattern in the fall and winter), things may get interesting by December or January. We'll see. Posted by: Dorthoy Location: College Station Repent - the end is nigh. Posted by: AML Location: college station Our digital temp is now reading 106 in south college station Posted by: Christyc Location: Madisonville This is a typical Texas summer. The problem is we had a non-typical dry fall and winter. The ground was dry going into summer and we're suffering for it. We're feeding roundbales already...and the hay crop is about 1/2 what it should be with no relief in sight. Cattleman are hurting already. Heat is one thing, unable to feed and water your animals is another. My prayers are for rain!! Posted by: Dennis Location: Waldon Texas Just got a rain shower 06/23/2009 at 6:55PM Waldon is about 12 miles south of Lovelady. Posted by: Clint Location: College Station Do any of you remember the summer of 96 maybe 97 when we had many days over 100 and several around 110 and no rain. Farmers were having to sell their cattle. It also happened to be the summer I painted my house. I pray it won't get that hot again. I'll take the heat over the cold. Posted by: Sammie we've been spoiled for the last 10-11 years, I think this is going to be like the summer we had back then, remember 30 days of 100 temps and no rain? That's funny about the water hose. lol Posted by: Anonymous man its hot outside welcome to Texas people Posted by: Blake Mathews Location: Bryan So I have a question...if you see the heat wave, do you wave back? :) I have to admit that the heat is oppressive. We have gone under guidence and put highs around 102 for tomorrow. The models show upwards of 106-108!!! The ridge may buckle a bit by the weekend, but I'm not counting money I don't have just yet. Posted by: Kap Location: Bryan I lived up north where we would see highs in the teens for weeks, but the only place I have ever gotten cabin fever was in Texas in the summer time. It's just too hot and dangerous to do anything outside. Posted by: Cyndi Location: Bryan I remember the 70's and 80's in the summer. It was hot all day but then at night things would cool down. Now, its 80 degrees at midnight. I don't need to use hot water, the walls of my house are hot to the touch, my a/c is struggling to keep up, and my trees are dying. I can't afford to water them, BTU charges so much. I'm going to passout when I see my next electric bill. I hate Texas summers and I'm a native. Posted by: Blake Mathews Location: Bryan Slim--that was funny. I must admit. Posted by: Alex Location: Bryan I don't think panic is the issue. What is an issue is that BCS is growing fast, and water issues and energy costs in the shadow (no pun intended) of these heat waves will require some serious consideration. Austin has had it worse then us in this regard (growth drought) and so not too early to plan for future situations of more heat and less water. I'm in Tucson now, observing one possible scenario for us! Posted by: Josh Location: Mad'ville I agree Ben. People are so caught up in the Global Warming Scheme that at the first sign of a little heat they start panicing. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! This is Texas. There have been hot and dry summers in Texas for many moons. And it looks like the trend will continue. Welcome to the South. Posted by: Slim 25 days without rain is nothing. When I was in the 3rd grade out in West Texas, our science teacher took us outside and sprayed a waterhose into the sky and told us, "this is what rain looks like". Posted by: Ben Location: Anderson Sort of reminds me of the summer of '78. If you don't like heat, Texas ain't the place to be in summer! |

| It’s been a month since I have written about my upcoming AC/DC concert with my 14 year old son Geoffrey. I had a real hard time getting tickets for the sold out event. Three different times in the final 12 hours my “deals” fell through. My alternative was to hit the concert and the ticket scalpers at the last minute. (Read Blog) |
