June Rainfall Update

I took what I thought would be a moment to look at some rainfall totals for Bryan/College Station. That moment quickly increased much like the amount of days since we've actually seen any measurable rain!  I say measurable because we have received a few sprinkles here and there but for all intents and purposes we haven't really picked up much in the rain buckets since --- when we received -- inches.

The chart to the right shows a yearly rainfall deficit of over 3.5 inches in Bryan/College Station through the end of June.  That's bad, but it gets worse in some parts of the state.  Bush IAH, which is the official reporting site for Houston, is over 4 inches below normal. San Antonio has only seen 0.01" inches of rain for the month of June with a deficit of over 12 inches!

Despite the low rain totals and high deficits, there are some isolated locations that have seen some good rain. In particular the eastern potions of the News 3 viewing area, from Trinity through New Waverly, appears to collect every time a small system moves through the region, which always seems to miss Bryan/College Station.

We have gotten a little rain in Centerville, hope you guys get some also. I have a question and was not sure where to ask it.... Has anyone noticed that the Earth has seemed to have tilted or the Sun? It seems that the sun is not at the same angle for time as it usually is. We like to look at the sky and see if we can tell the time. It is not in the same postion as usual. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed that...

we are in the middle of a drought and neither city, especially College Station, has asked residents to cut back on water usage. 14 million gallons out of 20 million gallons of water are used daily just in irrigation by the residents of CS. Water is not unlimited, we need to be responsible in its use and have it available for future generations.

Drought index informaiton here: http://www.txwin.net/Monitoring/Meteorological/Drought/pdsi.htm

I would be quite interested in knowing the drought index, as it considers soil and vegetation moisture levels. The rainfall surplus or deficit doesn't tell a complete story.

I've noticed! At least we don't have the days of 100 weather to accompany it.
