Will Brett Favre Come Back?

I've tried to resist the urge to blog on this topic, but I can't help but know what some of you may think about this.  Will Brett Favre return to the NFL next season?

The future Hall of Fame quarterback officially announced his retirement following the 2007 football season, but according to many reports, is communicating with the Green Bay Packers on a potential return and the options that would be available if he decides to do such.  Despite the amount of attention this has drawn from the media, Favre nor the Packers have acknowledge any of this.

If the Packers don't entertain any alleged requests, I can see their point-of-view.  I can also see why Favre fans believe it's a no-brainier.

For the Packers, the constant "will he or won't he" game that has succeeded every football season in recent history is a hurdle. Simple as that.  Superbowls are only won by the most superior teams and a consistent, cohesive organization is not debatable (i.e. the Colts, Patriots, etc.). This situation is no different from any other occupation -- if you announce your departure, the organization is responsible for ensuring that the team collectively moves forward with the next best candidate.  In this case, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have done just that and it's not difficult to understand why the Packers may not welcome any disruptions.

On the other hand, he's Brett Favre!  We all know that Aaron Rodgers is the future, but it's probably reasonable to suggest that Favre at QB will likely generate better results, at least at this point.  The fans will clearly have no problem seeing the 'Rodgers Era' delayed a bit longer to make way for Brett to give it another shot.

My opinion -- Favre retired at a high point and should drive off into the sunset as he awaits his Hall-of-Fame ceremony.  But, if he chooses to return, I think his immediate re-instatement to starting QB shouldn't be a problem

HOWEVER, I do not agree with any scenario that has him playing in the NFL with any other team.  He should either be welcomed back to the Packers or watch the game on TV.

Of course, this is if any of the reports are true in the first place!

What do you think?

i'm sorry, but the last i recall he retired and moved on. and so did the team....i'm a packer fan, then a favre fan....and slowly becoming less of a fan as this drama continues. so i support the packers decision. i'm moving on and aaron rodgers is my qb.....you'll see me at lambeau supporting the packers and good ol aaron rodgers for better or for worse.....you'll see me in the stands wearing this shirt! http://www.notredone.com/brwhofaarofa.html

Brett Favre has done himself a TERRIBLE disservice in all of this. Please explain this comment made by Favre: "Them moving on does not bother me," Favre said. "It doesn't. I totally understand that. By me retiring March 3rd, I knew that could possibly happen. All I was saying is, you know, I'm thinking about playing again." He knew it could POSSIBLY HAPPEN that the Packers would move on?! POSSIBLY? Meaning what, he also thought it was possible the organization would simply collapse without him? If he wasn't ready to retire, he shouldn't have bawled his eyes out doing so. If he comes back now with another time, I hope he gets concussed in game 1.

I've always liked Brett Favre, but tend to lose respect with the flip flopping. Maybe he should bow out gracefully and coach youth football like John Elway did.

I'm a Favre fan, and this last season proved he still has gas in the tank, but if I'm the Packers, I can't allow my organization to be taken hostage year after year by the "will he or won't he" flip-flopping #4 does. He said it was over. He said all good things must come to an end. He needs to stand by that, IMO. Then again, it's his life and his career, so he can do whatever he wants. He just needs to realize many others are affected by his thoughts and actions (Aaron Rodgers, for one).
