For a guy who has worked the nightside shift (2-11 p.m.) for more than two-and-a-half years, waking up at 4 a.m. to do the news has been an interesting transition to say the least, if not tiring.

For those who haven't noticed, I've been moved to the anchor desk for Brazos Valley This Morning and News 3 at Noon for the next few weeks (at least).  Truth of the matter is Jon Boaz called me when I got back from Washington and said, "Steve, I can't put up with Rodney any more.  Please help me."  I reluctantly agreed to step in and let Jon regain his sanity.

Before you comment or e-mail, Rodney and I are great friends...we just incessently pick on each other.  Plus, Barbara and Brenda are a breeze to work with, so it's been a fun transition.  We'll see what happens, but I hope it comes across in the mornings and noon that we genuinely like each other...even at 6 in the morning.

One other thing: as it's Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to repost a story I blogged about a few months back.  The video is below, and I'd urge you to carve out 10 minutes to watch it (and maybe 3-5 minutes to recompose yourself afterwards).  The service of PFC Nick Madaras, the legacy he left and his dream of helping kids through a game becoming reality need to be recognized and remembered.  It's one of the best stories I've ever seen, a story a reporter dreams of telling, a story a viewer dreams of seeing.
