Summer is right around the corner -- and since Mother Nature couldn't wait for it to get here -- we're feeling the heat now! Here are a few tips to remember as we entire the summer months. Feel free to add additional tips below! Add 15+ to the Temperature Remember the official temperature for Bryan/College Station is taken at Easterwood Field, in the shade. It can easily be at least 15 degrees warmer in direct sunlight, which explains why the car or bank thermometer almost always says it's hotter during a summer afternoon. If you plan on being in direct sunlight, keep this in mind. Avoid Being Outdoors for Too Long If at all possible, try to avoid being outdoors for long periods of time, especially if you plan on being active. The hottest time of the day during the summer is the late afternoon-to-early evening hours. Try to take care of your outdoor work in the morning or closer to sunset. Avoid Being Inside A Closed Vehicle In addition to it being much warmer in a car (read the first tip) a vehicle can warm up even faster during the afternoon when all the windows are rolled up. Don't leave the kids or pets in the car. Even with the windows down slightly, this is very dangerous. Drink Fluids Of course, you'll want to drink as much water as possible throughout the day -- more than what you think you should. Also try to avoid alcoholic beverages if you plan on being outdoors in the heat. Wear Light Clothing Light-colored clothing reflects heat better, preventing your body from absorbing as much. The idea is to keep your body temperature as cool as possible. If you know you'll be outdoors, wear light colored and light weight clothing. Look After Kids and the Elderly Remember, the heat affects everyone -- even those who can't defend themselves against it. Check in on kids, the elderly and others who may not be able to speak up if and when they experience heat illness. Again -- feel free to list below tips below. |

Hey lets not forget ur PETS!!!!! Under Bryan city ordinances your outdoor pets must have a 24 hour supply of water!!!!!!! All dogs must have a doghouse. If your dog keeps tipping over their water, try burying a bucket in the ground. There are too too many iresponsible pet owners in this city. And by the way; your dog being able to crawl under your trailer or broken down car doesn't count for shelter. Either take care of your pets or don't have them Posted by: Dianne Location: Huntsville Its to hot this year. Everything is dying. |
