BVTM starts Back to School Week on August 20th!
First up is Dr. Eric Wilke with the Brazos County Health Department. He stopped by Brazos Valley This Morning Monday to talk about immunizations.
There are three checkpoints for immunizations:
-Kindergarten -- DTAP, IPV, MMR, Varicella
-7th grade -- TDAP, Meningoccal, HPV (recommended, but not required)
-Entering college students -- Meningoccal.
Visit Immunize.org for more information.
See Dr. Wilke's full interview in the video player above.
The Brazos Count Health Department has changed it's eligibility for vaccines.
-Children (18 years and younger) who have private insurance that cover vaccines will no longer be eligible to receive vaccines at BCHD.
-Children who are uninsured or children who have Medicaid or CHIP are still eligible to receive vaccines at BCHD.
-Meningitis (Meningoccal) vaccine is available for $110 for insured and uninsured adults 19 and over.
Many school districts require parents to bring a record of immunization with their students. Parents can keep track of their child's shots online through a statewide registry.
Visit the Imm Trac registry here.
