When she graduated from Lincoln High School in the 60s, Annie Williams never imagined she would return there.
For the past four years, Williams has coordinated the senior program over at the Lincoln Center.
On any given day she is the youngest person in the room.
The average age of the seniors at the Lincoln Center in College Station is in the 70s. Many of them walk to the center each day.
It's a gathering place.
One to keep the mind, body, and soul in shape.
"They have such a willing spirit, and a good spirit, and let me know that all things are possible," says Williams.
In 1963 she graduated from the all black Lincoln School. Returning over 40 years later to the Lincoln Center was something that never crossed her mind.
"Never thoguht about it," admits Williams. "But I'm glad that I did. I'm glad the opportunity presented itself and I'm proud to be here."
The pride she has is shared by those who show up each day. It's a mutual relationship. What she's learning from a generation that saw tremendous change hits home.
"I'm just like them," shares Williams.
"I am a senior, learning to be stronger, learning to stand up for what I think is right, and if I know it's right I'm going to go for it."
Annie knows that her time isn't infinite, but she knows where she is needed.
"As long as the seniors are here I plan to be here, as long as they'll have me," laughs Williams.
Lessons about life don't come from a book. They have to be experienced and shared.
