UPDATE:

On Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 6:39 am, the Bryan Police Department responded to a disturbance call at 2010 Rockwood Dr. The call was later upgraded to a fire call and the Bryan Fire Department responded as well.

Upon arrival the police determined that a male resident had set the garage on fire and was trying to harm himself and one of his relatives.

The fire in the detached garage was successfully extinguished by the fire department. Detectives from CID, the Crime Scene Unit, and a Bryan Fire Department Arson Investigator responded to the scene to investigate.

The suspect was still on scene and secured by police. He was then transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for minor injuries from the fire. Police also determined that the suspect was in a state of crisis and he is being detained to be professionally evaluated.

The investigation continues as we determine the appropriate criminal charges, which could include aggravated assault.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Bryan firefighters put out a garage fire that authorities believe may have been started by a relative of the homeowner who was living there.

The fire was called in before 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 2000 block of Rockwood, just off FM 2818.

According to authorities, there was a relative of the homeowners living in the garage at the time of the fire. They believe he poured gasoline around the garage and lit it on fire.

Investigators are headed to the scene now to determine if that was truly the case.

Bryan firefighters say there is no structural damage to the home. The fire was contained to the inside of the garage.
