Fire ripped through a Bryan home Monday night, forcing a family to scramble out of the burning building.
Authorities were called to the corner of 28th Street and Hutchins around 10:40 p.m. When they arrived, the building was engulfed in flames at the front of the home.
A couple who lives there, their daughter and grand-daughter were inside at the time, but were able to escape. Burtis Dockery says he was awakened by his family yelling for him to get out. At first, the 72-year-old says he tried to fight the fire himself with an extinguisher, but when he couldn't stop the flames, he ran out.
Dockery says he doesn't know what started the fire, but that it was in the living room. Investigators are looking into the cause, including the possibility mentioned by some authorities that it was a candle.
Dockery also says he has insurance.
Firefighters told News 3 no one was injured from their crews.
