Congressman Bill Flores explained his thought process behind his "nay" vote on H.R. 8, the American Taxpayer Relief Act.
Flores, who joined Brazos Valley This Morning over the phone Wednesday morning, said the negatives outweighed the positives in the bill.
"Almost anybody could have come up with reasons to vote for or against this bill," said Flores.
Flores' office ran polls Tuesday through social media asking constituents what they thought about the proposed legislation. Overwhelmingly, the responses were against, said the congressman.
"The reasons I voted no are that is raises tax rates on jobs creators, it has a bunch of extensions on failed stimulus programs," said Flores. He voted no because the bill had a costly extension of unemployment insurance, fix $1.2 trillion in spending cuts (known as sequestration) or didn't address spending.
When asked what this bill means for the Brazos Valley, Flores said it reduces the uncertainty that many Americans were facing as the country approached the cliff.
