COLLEGE STATION Catherine Hastedt, the director of the J. Wayne Stark Galleries at Texas A&M, stopped by BVTM Thursday to introduce two new exhibits going on display.
"The Floating World" and "The Curious World of Patent Models" are both open now and will run through March 23rd.
"The Floating World" is a series of Ukiyo-e prints from the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. Hastedt described the pieces as postcards from the 1600s that showed famous actors of the age or places to travel.
"The Curious World of Patent Models" peeks into the exclusive world of models designed by those people seeking a patent. Hastedt said that each model is usually small enough to fit inside a 12inx12in cube. The models started in the late 1700s and almost 100 year later were stopped because there was little room left to keep them. Hastedt said the models were sold off. The exhibit at the Stark Galleries is from the Rothschild Patent Model Collection.
