Thousands of cops, constables and sheriff's deputies came to College Station Saturday to say thanks.
It's a small measure of appreciation, they say, for a man who gave the last full measure of devotion to his community.
"I've been doing this 22 years and each one is equally as tragic," says Lieutenant Bill Bucks. He and several officers from Montgomery County Sheriff's Office joined thousands of other officers, constables and deputies who drove to College Station to pay their respects to Constable Bachmann.
"It's important to us to show our support for the family and we are a brotherhood. It's just like losing one of our family and that's why we're here and we hope they understand that," says Bucks.
Hundreds of patrol cars and SUVs filled the parking lots at Reed Arena on Saturday morning. Some were recognizable from across the state, others weren't. Like the car Morris Stroud was driving. He and fellow officers drove in from Monroe, Louisiana.
"Anytime something like this happens it's our obligation to come support, no whether it's Texas, Louisiana or surrounding areas, we're gonna come and make sure not only the family, but the local enforcement to let them know we're here for them," says Stroud.
It wasn't just law enforcement that showed up to support the Bachmann family and local law enforcement. The Patriot Guard Riders were in full force.
"We come out to stand tall and proud, not only for our military veterans but for our first responders," says Randal Allison.
"To let them, let the communities know that there are those of us out here who care about them and appreciate the job that they've done and the sacrifices they make," says Allison.
