The Texas Transportation Commission approved over $600,000 for airport improvements at Bryan's Coulter Field.
At it's meeting in Austin Thursday, the commission approved for $633,000 for engineering, design and lighting improvements. A consultant will be selected over the winter.
The project will be funded through TxDOT's Aviation Facilities Grant Program. This year, TxDOT expects to provide $60 million in funding for planning, construction and mainatining community airports. The city of Bryan will also help fund some of the projects.
Approximately 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding. Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.
