College Station residents affected by Monday's shooting on Fidelity Street can get assistance from a state program.

The Crime Victims' Compensation Program is a resource to crime victims throughout the State of Texas. One purpose of the fund is to reimburse innocent victims for certain out-of-pocket expenses incurred as a result of violent crime.

The College Station Police Department Victim Services, along with local advocates and representatives from the Crime Victim Compensation Program in Austin will be at the College Station Police Department on Thursday, August 16 and Friday, August 17 from 10:00am - 4:00pm to assist residents in College Station with applying for Crime Victim Compensation. Potentially eligible recipients need to be directly involved with the actual offense that occurred on August 13th, 2012, involving the active shooter on Fidelity Street in College Station. Applicants can apply for counseling as well as other crime related out-of pocket expenses.

For affected community members that are not eligible for Crime Victim Compensation benefits, other support resources will be available at the police department. For more information, please stop by College Station Police Department and request to speak to victim services. The Victim Services representatives request that possible victims ask any eligibility questions in person, however if you cannot come to the police department during the above reference times, you can call Kendra Watson 979-764-5004. Representatives will be away from the phone most of the day so please leave a message and they will return your call as soon as possible.
