LONDON (AP) - The Olympics did not have a closing ceremony as much as a celebration of British pop music.
Madness played "Our House" while their sax player levitated. Pet Shop Boys performed "West End Girls" from two scrimshaws. One Direction sang "What Makes You Beautiful" from a flatbed truck. Ray Davies of The Kinks sang "Waterloo Sunset," while Emeli Sande' performed "Read All About It."
Dancers assembled pieces to form John Lennon's face while "Imagine" played. George Michael sang "Freedom" and his new song, "White Light." Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson arrived on a motorcycle to sing "Pinball Wizard."
Annie Lennox arrived on a burned-out pirate ship to sing "Little Bird." Ed Sheeran sang "Wish You Were Here" backed by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason on drums and Mike Rutherford of Genesis on guitar. A high-wire walker shook hands with a mannequin that caught fire, reminiscent of the "Wish You Were Here" album cover.
Fatboy Slim spun out "Rockafeller Skank" from inside a giant translucent octopus. Jessie J sang "Price Tag," Tinie Tempeh sang "Written in the Stars" and Taio Cruz sang "Dynamite," all from convertibles, then joined to perform the Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing."
The Spice Girls sang "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life" on top of cabs. Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye did "Wonderwall," while Muse did "Survival." Jessie J sang with Queen for "We Will Rock You." Take That performed "Rule the World."
The Who closed out the Olympics with "Baba O'Riley," ''See Me, Feel Me" and "My Generation."
