Digital music service Rhapsody has passed a million paying subscribers in the U.S. And that helps keep it as the national leader when it comes to music subscription services. Rhapsody has been around for 10 years - and in its current form, lets subscribers listen to as much music as they want for a monthly fee. The company also
offers a free trial period that includes use on mobile devices.
Rhapsody's subscriber count had hovered around 800,000 for years, but several recent developments reignited the business. For one thing, it began bundling its service into a cell phone plan for Android phones on one carrier, MetroPCS. And in October it picked up more subscribers through its purchase of Napster from Best Buy.
