How would you feel if you were in college and learned you were getting a scholarship, but later discovered it was a big mistake? That's what happened to possibly hundreds of Blinn College students.
On April 28, students from the Bryan and Brenham campuses received an email saying they were awarded an endowed scholarship, but the email contained numerous errors and was mistakenly sent to the students.
Then on May 2, those same students received official correspondence from the college informing them they hadn't been selected at all.
Since learning about the email error, officials have issued another apology for the mistake with some kind of compensation for those misled.
"We're hoping that we can determine some way to assist these students during the next academic year. That will depend, somewhat, on how many student were affected because as a community college we don't have very deep pockets. But we will try our best to resolve this situation in a manner that will satisfy the students and help them continue their education here at Blinn College." said Blinn College Public Information Officer Gena Parsons.
Blinn officials also say the email was a draft message that should never have been sent. As for those responsible for sending the message, that matter is a personnel issue and is being dealt with internally.
