Spanish speakers can now earn food managers certification through a new class at Blinn College. The college will begin offering the state required course in Spanish starting in July.

“Some Spanish speakers find it difficult to complete the course and the exam that are required by the state. This class helps them overcome the language barrier so they advance from their current position or can run their own business,” Blinn College Workforce Education program coordinator Gayla Briles.

The 16-hour course includes the certification exam and is required for owners, food service managers, chefs, supervisory personnel and operators of establishments that prepare and serve food to the public. Participants learn proper food storage, safe food preparation, pest control, accident prevention and other standards.

The class will meet July 18 and 25, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at 301 Post Office Street in Bryan. The class will also be offered Aug. 22 and 29. The cost is $119.

To register, contact Blinn College Workforce Education in Bryan at 979-209-7205 or online at www.blinn.edu/workforce.
