In its inaugural meeting last month, the ConQuest boys club in the Twin Cities set a national record for the biggest turnout for a first event.

One of the Catholic church's biggest local leaders took notice.

Tuesday night, at their second meeting, the bishop of the diocese of Austin paid the group a visit. Gregory Aymond applauded the local effort, which provides Catholic kids the chance to become confident and self-disciplined leaders.

The gathering came up just short of breaking the all-time record for attendance at a Conquest event, though organizers vow to eventually break the mark.

"We're very proud here in the Bryan area that this is one of the largest groups that has ever gathered in this country," Bishop Aymond said, "so we're very proud of that, and proud of these young men and their dads for being strong in faith."

The local ConQuest organizers say while this meeting wasn't a record breaker, it is the first ever ConQuest meeting that was blessed by a bishop.
