Jeaneé Thompson and Zadous Pollard lit up the courts this year as starters for the St. Joseph Lady Eagles. Their skill on the basketball court not only helped St. Joseph get to the final round of the TAPPS State Basketball tournament earlier this month, but also gained the attention of state, national, and international basketball associations.
Pollard, a junior, and Thompson, a senior have been selected as TAPPS First Team All-State members and are invited to participate in the All-Star Basketball games to be played in San Antonio, Texas on June 14, 2008.
In addition to her All-State distinction, Thompson will be traveling overseas this summer as a member of the USA Athletes International Team, the sponsoring organization to represent the United States in the 2008 Northern European Basketball Series. The Danish and Swedish basketball partnerships are the sponsors for this international friendship series to be played across Denmark and Sweden in June.
According to the USA Athletes International (USAAI), the purpose of the event is to “foster international goodwill and friendship among nations, while also promoting the game. Outside of the US Olympic program, there are few opportunities for athletes to compete internationally. Established in 1991, USAAI is a non profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes such an opportunity.”
