WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Texas’ senior senator, today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded the United Way of the Brazos Valley in College Station with an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $80,193 to improve overall fire prevention capabilities.
“This grant will help the United Way of the Brazos Valley acquire and maintain the resources they need to save lives,” Sen. Hutchison said. “The funding will also help these brave men and women prepare for and respond to emergency situations in our communities.”
According to DHS, the primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations. AFG have helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
