(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Chet Edwards announced that Justin Hsu, a senior at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, has won the District 17 Congressional Art Competition. Hsu’s piece, “Tree”, is now on display in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC, where it will be seen by hundreds of people each day for the next year. Hsu’s artwork was chosen first among nearly 20 works of art submitted by District 17 high school students.

“Justin Hsu is a talented young artist with a bright future, and it is a privilege to present him with this honor,” said Edwards. “This competition provides an exciting opportunity for aspiring young artists in our congressional district to display their talent, and I want to thank all those who participated for their outstanding work.”

Every year a nationwide art competition provides Members of Congress an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent of their creative high school constituents and acknowledge our nation’s gifted young artists. Since the competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have been able to participate at the local level. First place winners in all 435 congressional districts are eligible for a $5,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
The District 17 art competition was hosted by the Region 12 Education Service Center.
