The American Public Power Association (APPA) has recognized College Station Utilities for its high level of reliability while providing safe service while also focusing on future improvements.

College Station Utilities is one of only 60 utility companies in the entire country that has earned this Reliable Public Power Provider or RP3 recognition from APPA. This is also only the fourth time this award has been given.

"We're thrilled to join the ranks of RP3 designees around the country. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of CSU employees and the support given to CSU by the City Council. Prior to 2009, there were no utilities in the state of Texas that had received the designation. College Station is deeply committed to both providing reliable, affordable power to its customers and providing safety training to its employees," said David Massey, Director of Electric Utilities.

APPA is based in Washington, D.C. and represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community and state owned electric utilities.

What was that affordable part? They have almost doubled most people's bills for this past month and that's without using double the utilities. Sure, everyone expects it to be somewhat higher when it's super-hot out, but the rate shouldn't be so much higher (and it ought to be clearly listed on the bill too). I also don't get why they only send out final notices (less than a week after a bill is due) and do not send a normal late notice.

Anyone bother to notice that BTU recieved the same award? http://appanet.cms-plus.com/files/PDFs/rp3designees.pdf To an unbiased reporter, the first question should have been, "who else?"

Interesting - no mention of this on the APPA website or on their list of winners.
