College Station resident Comfort Manyame has an incredible gift.

Manyame has been singing gospel his entire life, something that started when he still lived in his native Zimbabwe.

Then in 2003 Manyame moved his family to College Station where he earned a PHD at Texas A&M University, but he never stopped singing.

"God has really used the music, not just to minister to other people, but to me personally," said Manyame.

Comfort has released three albums over the years, but in 2008 he wanted to do something much bigger and happened to get a hold of one of the biggest gospel music producers back in Zimbabwe.

"God just opened the door and last year we started communicating. I sent him some material and he just loved it so we said, lets do it," said Manyame.

Comfort went to work on Draw Me Near, an album with nine songs, four of them in his native Shona language. It was released in 2009 but just a few months ago, Comfort got some exciting news.

"I never thought I'd be nominated for an award," said Manyame.

Comfort is nominated for Best Artist by the African Gospel Music Awards. The ceremony will be held in London on July 9th and his single, "Come Let Us Go" is one of the songs that got him there.

"It's actually being played right now on national radio in the UK," said Manyame.

Comfort is doing what he can to comfort himself and remain calm before the awards.

"Praying and keeping my fingers crossed. Just being nominated is a big deal and I'm really humbled by that," said Manyame.

Regardless of the outcome, Comfort will continue his work as a soil engineer and keep his gospel greatness on the side.

"When I'm doing this science, it's really hard for my colleagues to grasp the fact that I really do sing, write and compose music. It's an interesting balance," said Manyame.

A balance that helps keep Comfort centered in everything he does.

You can see Comfort sing every Sunday at the College Heights Assembly of God church in Bryan and you can purchase his music on itunes and Amazon.
