Texas Aggies Go to War Exhibit

Event Dates and Times

10/24/2017 - 12/16/2017
Stark Galleries, Memorial Student Center, Texas A&M University
A full scale presentation of the Texas Aggies Go to War exhibit which debuted in Bastogne, Belgium in 2014 will be on display on the Texas A&M campus in the J Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center. The exhibit will tell the story of five former students of Texas A&M University who each had a role in the pivotal Battle of the Bulge which led to the Allied victory in Europe. These five—James Hollingsworth ‘40, Turney Leonard ‘42, Willie Peña ‘42, Joe Routt ’37 and Earl Rudder ’32 —are representative not only of all Aggies, but all Americans, who served in World War II. Through them a story is told of dedication, sacrifice, reconciliation, healing, and deep ties, both personal and economic, between people an ocean apart. The full exhibit will be part of the Military Heritage Center, which will be built in College Station's Veterans Park.

Homeschool Days at Washington on the Brazos

Event Dates and Times

9/11/2017 - 10/27/2017
Washington on the Brazos State Historic Park
The Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm are pleased to present a program specifically for home school families.

On Wednesdays & Fridays in September and Thursdays in October, the staff at the museum and the farm will present Childhood in Early Texas, an interactive, hands-on program for the entire family. Discover what life was like for a child in the mid-19th century during a visit to this historic site. In the museum, learn about childhood chores, clothes, and schools, and then make some old-fashioned toys to take home. Take a break with a picnic lunch in the pecan grove along the Brazos River. At Barrington Farm, experience life on an early Texas farm, complete with a stroll through the cotton field, picking a boll or two along the way.

Curriculum materials including lesson plans and activity sheets will be available online to help continue the learning experience at home.
