Investing in Mental Health: SKY Breathing is an effective tool
Event Dates and Times
Venue- MSC (more details upon signing up)
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is a “state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” Body, mind and spirit are like a tripod – even if one aspect isn’t functioning properly, our life will not be balanced and that will lead to ill health. Neither at school nor at home are we taught how to our handle negative emotions. We teach dental hygiene but forget to teach mental hygiene. Stress does not go away by just talking or advising. We need to learn some techniques and tools to get rid of stress and calm the mind. We cannot handle mind on the level of mind, but using breath skillfully it is possible to handle our mind and emotions easily. Negative emotions can make you sink into depression, and wisdom of the Self can take you out of depression. This is where meditation and breathing techniques can play an important role. They are the tools that help you calm your mind, and make you feel happy from within. Many illnesses can be helped through meditation and breathing techniques. In fact, I would say that meditation is food for the soul. Yesplus Club at Texas A&M offers innovative life-skills training programs that combine mind-body practices with interactive discussions and experiential processes so that students can gain valuable skills to better navigate the personal, social, and academic landscape and pressures of college. This semester, the club is offering the YesPlus workshop which is an innovative and experiential life-skills training program that empowers participants to learn secrets of breath and meditation techniques including the scientifically validated 'SKY Meditation' (Sudarshan Kriya.) Health and wellness are more than the mere absence of illness. To be well is to thrive physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Evidence suggests increased health, vitality, and well-being, reported by tens of thousands of SKY meditation practitioners, which are consistent with empirical research findings. SKY Meditation uses cyclical, rhythmic patterns of breath to bring the mind and body into a relaxed state, leading a meditative state to arise. Its effects have been studied in open and randomized trials, both in healthy populations and in populations with psychopathology. This 4 days retreat provides tangible tools to free the mind of STRESS, WORRY, and ANXIETY while helping people move from temporary to sustainable happiness. You will learn techniques to REDUCE stress, CALM the mind, INCREASE focus & productivity, and IMPROVE time-management & leadership skills.
Come attend our free meditation session to know more about the retreat and get a discount towards the course. Special Halloween group discounts are also available. Free informational: Oct 30th and 31st MSC 1402 7-8 PM

Stark Galleries, Memorial Student Center, Texas A&M University
A full scale presentation of the Texas Aggies Go to War exhibit which debuted in Bastogne, Belgium in 2014 will be on display on the Texas A&M campus in the J Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center. The exhibit will tell the story of five former students of Texas A&M University who each had a role in the pivotal Battle of the Bulge which led to the Allied victory in Europe. These five—James Hollingsworth ‘40, Turney Leonard ‘42, Willie Peña ‘42, Joe Routt ’37 and Earl Rudder ’32 —are representative not only of all Aggies, but all Americans, who served in World War II. Through them a story is told of dedication, sacrifice, reconciliation, healing, and deep ties, both personal and economic, between people an ocean apart. The full exhibit will be part of the Military Heritage Center, which will be built in College Station's Veterans Park.

Your Organization's Culture: If you Don't Get It Right, Nothing Else Matters
Event Dates and Times
The TrainHR webinar is approved by HRCI and SHRM Recertification Provider.
Overview: Get on a Southwest flight to anywhere, buy shoes from Zappos.com, pants from Nordstrom, groceries from Whole Foods, anything from Costco, a Starbucks espresso, or a Double-Double from In and Out, and you'll get a taste of these brands vibrant cultures.
Unfortunately culture is often misunderstood and discount as a touch feely, rather than a bottom line, component of a business. That's not the case. As Peter Drucker, the founder of modern management said, "Culture eats strategy for lunch." Culture is one of the most important business drivers that has to be intentionally set and periodically adjusted to push long-term, sustainable success. It's not good enough just to have an amazing product and a healthy bank balance. The workplace culture can enable a company's success, or be the key to its undoing.
What about your company's culture? Does it inspire and engage or get in your people's way, slowing and wearing them down? Is it driven from top-down directives or cross-department collaboration? What stories do your people and your customers tell about you? This webinar will show how you can get a good read on the health of your culture.
Why should you Attend:Corporate culture is a hot topic among businesses who want to attract the best talent, translate their values to their products and services, and show customers what they're all about. There are significant benefits that come from a vibrant and impactful culture. They are
Focus and Spirit: Aligns the entire company towards achieving its vision, mission, and goals. Engagement:Builds higher employee motivation, productivity, and innovative problem solving. Cohesion:Builds consistency and coordination among the company's various departments and divisions
Also culture often becomes the focus of attention during periods of organizational change. Mergers and acquisitions, new systems implementations and elaborate initiatives typically fail because organizations become caught in the so-called "jaws of culture" when the existing culture becomes inappropriate, and hinders rather than supports progress.
Areas Covered in the Session:
Learn why Peter Drucker says Culture eats strategy for lunch Discover why culture is like an iceberg What's above and below the water line Identify and analyze the six key elements of culture in every business or organization Review twelve daily ways effective leaders can communicate and reinforce company culture Plan specific actions you will take to lead or influence changes in the culture of your organization Use a three step process to pinpoint what drives the culture of your team, department or company Understand what successful leaders know and do that helps them avoid cultural traps and mis-fires
