A film that has reached iconic status among Aggies will be shown on the Texas A&M campus as part of the exhibit honoring service in World War II.
“We’ve Never Been Licked” will play in the J. Wayne Stark Galleries Thursday, November 30 at 2:00PM. The event is free and open to the public. No RSVPs are necessary, but seating is first come, first serve. Free popcorn and drinks will be available.
Shot on campus, “We’ve Never Been Licked” debuted in theaters in August 1943. The movie spotlights A&M traditions and life as an Aggie during the war. It stars Richard Quine as a new student trying to find his way on campus, falling in love and dealing with foreign spies who have made their way to Aggieland in search of secret American research. Quine’s love interest is played by Texan Anne Gwynne, one of the most popular pin-ups of the World War II era and grandmother of current acting star Chris Pine. The film also features Academy Award-nominated actor Robert Mitchum, who was ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the 50 greatest American screen legends.
Moviegoers can also walk through the “Texas Aggies Go To War: From Texas to Bastogne” exhibit and learn more about the efforts to build the Military Heritage Center in Veterans Park in College Station.
A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, From Bastogne to Texas, Inc., is working to fundraise for construction and operation of the Military Heritage Center. Once built, it will house exhibits – both permanent and travelling – dedicated to telling stories of service connected to Texas A&M, the Brazos Valley and beyond. There will also be space for educational conferences and meetings.
“Texas Aggies Go to War: From Texas to Bastogne” is open in Stark through Saturday, December 16.
The Stark Galleries are located in the northeast corner of the Memorial Student Center. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 9:00AM-8:00PM, Saturday-Sunday Noon-6:00PM. Admission is free. For more information on this and other exhibits at the Stark Galleries, call (979) 845-6081 or visit uart.tamu.edu.

A full scale presentation of the Texas Aggies Go to War exhibit which debuted in Bastogne, Belgium in 2014 will be on display on the Texas A&M campus in the J Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center. The exhibit will tell the story of five former students of Texas A&M University who each had a role in the pivotal Battle of the Bulge which led to the Allied victory in Europe. These five—James Hollingsworth ‘40, Turney Leonard ‘42, Willie Peña ‘42, Joe Routt ’37 and Earl Rudder ’32 —are representative not only of all Aggies, but all Americans, who served in World War II. Through them a story is told of dedication, sacrifice, reconciliation, healing, and deep ties, both personal and economic, between people an ocean apart. The full exhibit will be part of the Military Heritage Center, which will be built in College Station's Veterans Park.
