Each U.S. household can apply for up to two $40 coupons to go towards the purchase of a converter box (like this) and the government has now opened the site allowing you to sign up!

To apply for your converter boxes, go to www.dtv2009.gov. Once you get to the site, select option number three, “Apply for Coupon”. Take the next couple of minutes to fill out the form, and then select “submit” at the bottom of the page.

Remember, there are millions of people in the United States and only one site to sign up at, so applying may require a little patience.

If you currently subscribe to a cable or satellite service, or if you have a digital TV set, then you won’t need a converter box. However, if you don’t fall into those categories and don’t plan on joining them, here is your opportunity to take the first steps necessary in assuring you keep your signal after February 2009.
