BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - The 22nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom March and program is scheduled for Monday, January 15.
This year's MLK day happens to land on Martin Luther King Jr.'s actual birth date, making it an extra special celebration of his life's work.
The march will begin at 10 a.m. at Sadie Thomas Park. Attendees will walk down MLK Street in Bryan until they reach Kemp Elementary School. A tribute to Dr. King will follow, which includes honors and awards to be given to students and community leaders.
The program's keynote speaker this year is Mr. Hugh McElroy. He was the first African American to start on the Texas A&M football team. McElroy lettered in 1970-71 and earned an honorable mention on the All-1970s SWC football team as a kick returner. His performance on the football team helped open the doors to football at A&M for African-Americans.
