COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - Following a vote of 4-3 vote Tuesday, the College Station Parks and Recreation Advisory board will recommend demolishing the current Thomas Park Pool and building a new one at the park.
Building a new one would cost an estimated $2 million. A city spokesman says the three dissenting votes preferred closing the pool and building a destination splash pad.
The price tag on that would be $800,000 but would reportedly save the city $150,000 each year in operation and maintenance.
City staff says the pool, which was built in 1979, needs to be repaired and renovated.
Currently, the board's recommendation is an unfunded project. It'll now go to city budget committee and city management to be evaluated.
