COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial debuted a new statue to commemorate those on the home front during World War II.
The Rosie the Riveter statue is the first female represented in the park.
There were five women who were actual Rosie the Riveters who came out for the event, including one who celebrated her 97th birthday on December 7th.
She shares her birthday with the attack on Pearl Harbor, and remembers hearing about it on the radio at the Bryan Air Force Base.
"It was my 21st and we had the radio on playing music and it was interrupted while we were cutting my cake to announce that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor," said Ruth McGill.
The next planned statues include a military nurse and a memorial to Women Air Force Service Pilots.
