Woman critical after speeding car slams into back of horse trailer

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Bryan police say a woman is in critical condition after a speeding Mercedes-Benz slammed into the back of a horse trailer Thursday morning on Highway 21 near Highway 6.

According to officers, a 2001 Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on Highway 21 when it rear-ended a horse trailer being pulled by a 2001 Dodge truck. The driver of the truck wasn't injured and there were no animals in the trailer.

Investigators said that both the driver and passenger of the Mercedes were taken to CHI St. Joseph Hospital. The driver was treated and released. The passenger, a 34-year-old female, was seriously injured. The accident report said she was not wearing a seat belt. As of Friday morning, she was listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Mercedes was issued a citation for failing to control speed.
