Bryan officer, woman both injured during movie theater chase

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX)- A Bryan police officer twisted his knee while chasing an intoxicated teenager through a movie theater, according to a police report. It happened Friday night at the Premiere Cinema on Highway 6.

The officer was working security detail when, according to the report, Nichoals Bartley Gourlas showed up highly intoxicated in the lobby and fell to the ground.

The officer said the 19-year-old had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, and red eyes. The teen gave a false name as he was being questioned.

When the officer informed the teen he'd be going to jail for public intoxication, Gourlas took off running into one of the movie auditoriums, according to the report.

During the foot chase, the officer ran into a woman and twisted his knee.

Even with his injury, the officer was able to follow the fleeing teenager into the auditorium and tackled him to the ground.

The woman that the officer accidentally ran into was also injured, and was taken by an ambulance to a hospital. The report did not say how badly she was hurt.

Gourlas has been booked into the Brazos County Detention Center on several charges including evading arrest, public intoxication, and failure to identify himself to a law enforcement officer.
