Candlelight Vigil honors victims of domestic violence

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX)- The Brazos County Coalition Against Domestic Violence held its twenty third annual candle light vigil in College Station Thursday at Connecting Point Church.

The yearly vigil kicks of Domestic Violence Awareness month, which is the month of October.

Participants celebrated the courage of survivors, and remembered those that are no longer here because of domestic abuse.

"We want people to leave here with hope," said Alison Pourteau, a domestic violence counselor for Twin City Missions. "Hope for people that are still in those situations. Hope for themselves so they can heal from their own words and just a better awareness of how many people are affected by it."

Statistics show one in three Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.
