COLLEGE STATION, Texas COLLEGE STATION – It’s been two years since the city of College Station sold the Chimney Hill shopping center located on University Dr. near Tarrow St.
Early on, the new developers PM Realty Group planned to finish the new development by mid-2016.
Up until Tuesday there had not been any movement on the property, but city officials say PM Realty Group is beginning work and setting up fences to prepare demolition.
Natalie Ruiz with the city of College Station says the owners of the property are moving forward with relocating The Republic Steakhouse and building a new Black Walnut Cafe.
However, the timetable on the project has moved some.
“Developments are often susceptible to changes in the overall economy,” said Ruiz. “This may lead to delays in some cases. But projects are continuing to move forward along University, and we're excited about their potential.”
As for the proposed hotel, the city says there's no timetable right now.
Ruiz also says the city is excited about a number of different projects getting underway along the University Drive Corridor. From State Highway 6 to Northgate, there are redevelopment projects that will transform this primary gateway to Texas A&M University.
The three existing projects are outlined below:
Pappadeaux’s - Demolition is also imminent for the existing medical clinic building at 1600 University Drive to prepare for a new Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen.
Embassy Suites – Demolition recently occurred along University Drive at Jane Street removing the existing Asia Star restaurant and several rental properties to prepare for a new Embassy Suites hotel.
Student Housing – A new multi-story student housing facility is planned at 711 University Drive similar to The Rise.
