HOUSTON (AP) - An assistant choir director in a suburban Houston high school is accused of telling a female student to remove all her clothes to try on gowns and then secretly recording her in a classroom closet that had been converted to a changing room.

Clarence Appleby refused to answer questions from reporters following his initial court appearance Monday in Houston. The 28-year-old Katy man charged with invasive improper photography is free on bond and has asked for a court-appointed lawyer.

He's been fired from his job at the Katy Independent School District.

Harris County prosecutors say a 17-year-old student at Mayde Creek High School noticed a box in the changing room and discovered a running video recorder. Appleby could get up to two years in jail if convicted.
