Community input sought for B/CS's roads

COLLEGE STATION Brazos County could double in population by 2050. The Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization is working to figure out the best way for the roads you drive to handle the growth.

Ken Jones has called Bryan home for most of his life. He says the roads he drives are a lot busier.

"When I was growing up you could get to any part of the county in just about 15 minutes,” he said.

Fast growth will make Brazos County commutes even longer if something isn't done. Daniel Rudge is with the Bryan/College Station MPO. He is designing new roadways, but he needs your help.

"We do not pretend to speak for the citizens at large. They know their commute better than we do," said Daniel Rudge.

That is why the MPO will hold public meetings through March. Rudge wants you to share your thoughts on trouble spots.

The metro planners have an early idea on some changes. They think they could use Highway 47 as they build an outer loop around Bryan-College Station. Plus, they could make an inner loop using FM 2818 and William D. Fitch parkway.

Rudge says your input could improve their ideas.

"We hear comments like, 'Please don't turn us into a Houston,' and 'please don't let us fall so behind that we are all constantly stuck in traffic,'" said Rudge.

If you cannot make it to a meeting, the MPO can send you a comment card. A link to the MPO website is attached with this story.
