Cooking for kidney dialysis patients during the holidays

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Kidney disease affects a surprisingly high number of adults; 30 million Americans.

Because of this, DaVita Dialysis recently launched a Game Day Cookbook, which includes a number of healthy options for football fans.

They even some great Thanksgiving recommendations.

Each recipe is tailored to those coping with chronic kidney disease, but it also great for all to munch on.

Elizabeth McClary is a registered dietitian with DaVita.
She joined us on First News at Four to show us how to make 'dialysis friendly' shish-kabobs. Check out the video above for the recipe.

McClary says some of the types of foods to avoid are those with potassium (bananas), phosphorus (milk, dairy, nuts/seeds, chocolate), and foods with sodium.

DaVita has the Game Day Cookbook as well as a holiday cookbook available on their website with tons of recipes.
