NEW ORELANS, La. -- The Robert E. Lee monument in New Orleans will be the fourth and final confederate-era monument to be taken down by the city on Friday.
The statue is set to be dismantled beginning at 9 a.m. Unlike the first three monuments, city officials plan to take Lee's statue down during the day.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will speak Friday afternoon about the city's efforts to remove the four Confederate monuments.
The city council voted in April to declare the confederate monuments a nuisance and have them removed.
