COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - An early morning fire broke out at the Flats on 12 apartments Friday, forcing evacuations at the complex.

The fire started around 7 a.m. in building 4. Fire officials could see flames and smoke shooting out of the building when they arrived on scene.

There was one man inside the apartment near where the fire started. He got out safely and apartment management got him set up in another unit onsite.

One other person was treated for smoke inhalation. They were treated on scene and did not have to go to the hospital.

Management has opened the club house for the displaced residents.

They are working with the Community Action Response Team, which is a volunteer organization with the College Station Fire Department to figure out their next steps.

So far, officials believe four units in the building were affected.

One suffered heavy damage, officials aren't sure yet just how much damage the surrounding apartments suffered.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this post.
