Firefighters wow onlookers at TEEX public demo night

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - News 3's Kathleen Witte suited up in bunker gear and participated in the firefighting demonstrations. See video player above.

The TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field had hundreds of visitors Wednesday night as the public was invited for a behind-the-scenes look at how firefighters train to save lives.

TEEX holds its Public Firefighting Demonstration Night every year at the fire field in College Station.

Trained firefighters from across the country help put out fires fueled by gasoline, propane, and more as Brazos Valley community members looked on and cheered.

TEEX trainers say it's a worthwhile glance behind the curtain.

"You know a lot of people don't really understand what a firefighter has to go through," said TEEX ESTI Division Director Chief Robert Moore. "They don't understand the dangers that a firefighter is putting him or herself in, and we're trying to show them that so that they have a better appreciation."
