Flores responds to Trump's controversial remarks about other nations

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Congressman Bill Flores said on Friday he hopes President Trump will be more mindful of his own words and tweets.

Mr. Trump issued a denial Friday about using that language in a Thursday Oval Office meeting where he reportedly described Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as "sh*thole countries."

Texas Congressman Bill Flores issued this statement to KBTX following the meeting:

“It is my hope that the president would be more mindful of the words that he uses and the tweets that he generates. Disparaging remarks do nothing to advance the common agenda to benefit hardworking American families that we are working towards. We each have two ears and one mouth and we all should use them in that proportion.”

The White House meeting on immigration included a bipartisan group of senators.

After The Washington Post first reported Mr. Trump's remarks, later confirmed by CBS News' Nancy Cordes, the White House did not deny the comment in a statement.
