Prepping your 2017 tax return? Don't let these commonly overlooked deductions pass you by.
Jodi Jones, a certified public accountant representing Brazos Valley CPAs, joined First News at Four to discuss what you might be missing as you rush to make the mid-April filing deadline.
Jones mentions the following:
- Non-cash charitable contributions, such as item donations
- Depending upon other factors, student loan interest, IRA contributions or health insurance if you're self-employed
- Classroom expenses for K-12 teachers
- Refinancing points
- Military reservists' non-reimbursed travel
Jones says if you've already filed your return for 2017, there's still time to amend it to reflect a deduction you may have missed.
