Focus at Four: Genomic testing helps some cancer patients skip chemo

For breast cancer patients, genomic testing can now target the cancer itself and determine if chemotherapy is a necessity in treatment.

Dr. Erin Fleener with the Cancer Center in Bryan joins First News at Four to discuss what this research means for the one in eight women diagnosed who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in lifetime.

Dr. Fleener explains that this genetic testing can assess the risk of the cancer spreading and spreading quickly. If it is a "low-risk" cancer, Dr. Fleener says chemotherapy can often be omitted from treatment with little effect.
