Focus at Four: Here's what local lawyers have to say about Justice of the Peace candidates

BRAZOS COUNTY, Tex. (KBTX) - The Brazos County Bar Association surveyed members of the bar on the qualifications of candidates in Justice of the Peace races for districts 1, 2 and 4.

"We believe in an informed electorate," said Kassi Horner, president of the BCBA. "It's an obligation we have to our members."

Horner says members of the bar are uniquely positioned to make these determinations. If the member did not have personal knowledge of a candidate, they were not allowed to rate that candidate.

"JPs are essentially ruling on cases of law," said Horner. "Our members, with their legal training and experience, know what roles these JPs play in our system."
