Focus at Four: How to navigate politics at the Thanksgiving table

If you're thinking of breaching political topics at turkey time, professionals suggest you think again.

"Of course it's important to have intelligent discussions about politics," said Fab Mancini, a healthy living consultant of "Just not at Thanksgiving."

Mancini says it's easier, and more enjoyable, to stick to positive topics.

"Talk about what you're thankful for, get job updates, talk about the kids," said Mancini. "You don't have to talk about politics on this one day of the year.

Mancini also says it's okay to be firm with a relative who doesn't get the hint.

"If they try to pick a fight over a topic, just ask them to please refrain," said Mancini. "You can even call certain family members before and request they avoid the topics."
