Give back this Christmas with the Salvation Army Angel Tree

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - This holiday season, the Salvation Army of Bryan/College Station is asking you to consider adding one more child to your Christmas list.

Friday, the Post Oak Mall hosted the Salvation Army for the Angel Tree kick-off, an annual program that allows families in the Brazos Valley to help their neighbors in need put presents under the tree.

Beginning now, mall visitors can choose a child's wish list off the large Christmas tree in the food court and shop for gifts for that child.

Gifts are due back to the tree in Post Oak Mall by Dec. 9.

Salvation Army Captain Paul Ryerson says this is a perfect way to honor the true spirit of the season.

"As families are coming through, shopping for themselves and their kids and their families, they'll have the chance to stop at the tree," said Capt. Ryerson. "And maybe, if the spirit allows them, choose a name off that tree and add them to their family this year."

The family recipients have been carefully screened and selected by the Salvation Army. The kick-off also marks the beginning of the Army's Red Kettle Campaign.
