KBTX Sports learned Thursday morning that Dr. Stu Musick, Superintendent of Navasota ISD, has relived Patrick Goodman of his duties as the Rattlers' athletic director and head football coach.
Goodman has served as Navasota's AD and head coach for the past two seasons.
Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach for 11 seasons, overseeing the safeties for former head coach Lee Fedora.
The district released the following statement Thursday morning:
Navasota ISD has opened the position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach and will begin the search immediately to fill that position. In a statement from the Navasota ISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Stu Musick, "It is our responsibility and goal for every single one of our district's programs and areas to be a program of excellence. From academics to athletics, and from Pre-Kindergarten to college courses, it is our expectation for all of our areas to be successful in every way possible. After a lengthy evaluation period and with much thought, we have decided to begin the next phase of our athletic success as we search for our new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach to help lead our Rattler and Lady Rattler athletic programs into the future. Coach Patrick Goodman has served the students and district of Navasota ISD proudly for the past 13 years including the past two years as AD and Head Football Coach. Coach Goodman is a man of integrity, character, and also a great man of faith. We are very thankful for all that he has done for Rattler Nation. In the interim during this search process, we have named Coach Tommy Gates (Asst. AD and Head Girls Basketball Coach) as our interim Athletic Director. Also, we have named our Offensive Coordinator, Coach Ian Walraven, to fill in as interim Head Football Coach to maintain that the staff and student-athletes don't miss a beat as they continue to work hard each and every day."
The district will begin accepting applications by mail on Monday, January 8, 2018 through Friday, February 2, 2018. Interviews will be conducted the weeks of February 12 and 19, with a proposed start date of Monday, March 5, 2018 for the new head coach and athletic director.
